Emergency Preparedness: Are Your Pets Microchipped?

In our last post we highlighted the Three P’s of pet disaster planning: Practice, Planning, and Preparation. Permanent microchip identification has proven to be an effective way to reunite pets and people when they are separated. Tags and collars can fall off or become illegible, but a microchip can easily link you to your pet if he or she ends up at a shelter or vet clinic. With peak season for hurricanes, floods, and tornadoes fast approaching, microchipping your pets is one of the best ways to ensure their safety if you are separated by a natural disaster or other emergency.
