What A Week This Has Been!

What a week this has been! It started out as a regular pet sitting week. Things began to go downhill on Tuesday - mentally and exhaustingly downhill.

On Tuesday, precious Kitty had dental surgery. To make a long story short - Kitty is now blind. He had a slight stroke while under anesthesia. He's having some trouble keeping his equilibrium while walking around his house, but he's really loving being in Mom and Dad's laps! This week he's going to spend time alone with Dad - Mom has to leave on a trip for work. Of course, he's bumping into things while walking around the house. Hopefully that will change with time as he learns the placement of furniture. I just hope Mom and Dad like where all the furniture is in their home because it's going to be a while before they can redecorate!

On Wednesday Zoey started feeling bad. Her leg began swelling, and they couldn't seem to find the source of the swelling. X-rays didn't show a thing. By Thursday poor Zoey's leg had swollen considerably, she was obviously uncomfortable, and her parents just didn't know what to do - they painfully considered all options. Unfortunately they had to leave town Friday evening. I was so worried about Zoey being home without her family this weekend.

However, Zoey has definitely rallied. On Thursday night I silently agreed with their painful decision. What a blessing that on Friday Zoey's Mom decided to stay home with her and just observe her through the day. By Friday night she was showing some signs of improvement; by today the Zoey I know and love has returned! Her family is going to be simply ecstatic when they return this evening to their Zoey.

What a week this has been! As a pet sitter you constantly tell yourself "they're not your pets," "it's not your dog/cat," or "it's not your decision." When it comes down to it, it's very difficult to separate yourself from your clients' pets. You come to love them and care for them as much as you do your own, and you come to feel the pain and indecision that the client feels when their beloved furry friend is ill.

What a week this has been!

Well that's what makes you so darn good at your job. You put your heart and pride into being the person to care for our furry babies! Thank you for all that you do.
